Four Mile Village, the most prestigious and sought after address on the Emerald Coast, located adjacent to Tops'l Resort and Sandestin Beach Resort and minutes from Silver Sands Outlet mall and Grand Boulavard. Ten minutes to the west is the heart of Destin and opposite to the east are quaint shops and dining along scenic 30-A. This is the perfect location!
Its approach from the Four Mile Village entrance is lined with 60 foot longleaf pines, cedars, oaks, magnolias, lupine and lichen—the typical flora throughout the area before urban development. The front terrace has a robust rosemary bush—bring those recipes—as well as a shady bower of scrub oak and magnolia. With a million dollar renovation in 2007, this classic beachfront home is striking, with its Mexican tile, vaulted ceilings, Murano glass kitchen accents and an abundance of Gulf-front windows. The living room, dining room and kitchen face the Gulf. High ceilings give an airy feeling and the climate-controlled porch along the length of the living room is the ultimate in comfort. With its own TV, you can multi-task here: watch a ball game, read the paper and sip a cool one, all the while keeping an eye on the beach scene. Open decks to either side are ideal for soaking up the sun. All three bedrooms face the Gulf, and the bunkroom is reminiscent of a train’s Pullman berths—each has curtains and each has its own TV—kid heaven after a busy beach day. Solitude and privacy are givens in this unique South Walton neighborhood, yet the busy outside world of restaurants, shopping, golf, tennis and medical care are just two minutes away.
First Floor: Living room, dining room, kitchen, king master bedroom with bath, queen bedroom with bath, twin bedroom with bath, two sets of twin bunks in hallway , hall bath with shower, laundry room, and Gulf front porch.
Four Mile Village: The name comes from the navigation marker “Four Mile Point,” on Choctawhatchee Bay, where Sandestin Resort, Mack Bayou and fourteen acres of Creek Nation property are now located. The 300-acre beachside property was purchased in the early 1940’s by John and Dorothy Coffeen, but wasn’t used privately until 1946, as the Army Air Force requested its use for an important military mission during WWII. JB-2 missiles , the American version of the German V-1 or “buzz bomb” were tested here. Four bunkers, two missile ramps, armament rails and assorted concrete foundations and asphalt roads or runways remain. There are several hiking trails available to view these remnants, the freshwater lake, and forested areas. The Coffeen Nature Preserve was created in 1976 when Dorothy donated about 200 acres to the Sierra Club Foundation. There are presently thirty-seven homes in Four Mile Village, with ten full-time residents. With 2200 feet of beachfront and Tops’l State Park immediately to the east, privacy is ensured. Enjoy the series of freshwater coastal lakes, occurring only here and in an area of Africa. All is quiet and serene, yet within two minutes’ drive are restaurants, major shopping, golf, tennis and medical care. Perfection, anyone?
