30A Vacation Rentals

Where to stay on 30A!

Posted on 11/16/2012

Ocean Reef is pleased to be able to offer our guests a bountiful array of fine private vacation rentals along one of the nation's most beautiful highways, Scenic 30A. This sensational, scenic two lane road meanders along the shores of the Emerald Coast, known as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.  This beautiful corridor hugs the forested Gulf of Mexico coastline with breathtaking views of sugar white sands and translucent, jewel toned waters. Scenic 30A crosses through the charming beach side communities of Dune Allen, Santa Rosa Beach, Blue Mountain Beach, Grayton Beach, Watercolor, Seaside, Seagrove Beach, Watersound, Alys Beach, Seacrest and Rosemary Beach. Each picture perfect town offers its own unique personality with individual architectural features and lifestyles.

Scenic Highway 30A has an esteemed double distinction. First of all, the state has selected this route as a one of a favored few Florida Scenic Highways due to its natural beauty. Secondly, this gorgeous route travels beside shores that are designated as a "Blue Wave Beach", which is the nation's highest honor for cleanliness and beauty. There are numerous public access points along the way to the crystalline white beaches, many of which are below sand dunes that rise up from the edge of the emerald green Gulf. Precious Coastal Dune Lakes parallel the coast. These exotic bodies of water are found in only three other places in the world which include Madagascar, Australia and New Zealand. They support a huge variety of wildlife due to the special combination of fresh and salt water which varies as inlets open up or close off to the gulf. Most are undeveloped and protected with almost 25,000 acres of state forests, preserves or parks that stretch across this scenic route. Running from west to east the Coastal Dune Lakes include Stallworth, Oyster, Draper, Big Redfish, Little Redfish, Alligator, Western, Eastern, Deer and Camp Creek Lakes.

A bike trail follows Scenic 30A from one end to the other which starts and ends at Highway 98. There are also sandy forest bike trails that interconnect at different points along the way from the smoothly paved path but they are not for the faint of heart. At one point the paved bike trail even runs under a covered bridge with glimpses of Draper Lake as you cross into the rolling hills of Blue Mountain Beach which marks one of the highest elevations in the United States on the Gulf of Mexico. Sensational seascapes and lovely lake views are everywhere along this route.

Three amazing state parks parallel the coast along 30A which include Topsail with "towering" twenty-five foot dunes, award winning Grayton Beach and forested Deer Lake which is named for the doe that sometimes eat the Sea Oats along the shore.  Grayton Beach State Park is particularly lovely since Scenic 30A crosses Western Lake which borders the forest on one side and runs all the way to the beach. A narrow isthmus that crosses the lake into the aptly named Watercolor community offers spectacular sunsets from Fall till early Spring that are reflected in the placid waters. The gentle alabaster colored dunes and shimmering Gulf on the beach side of Western Lake complete this picture and it is heavenly to gaze upon. Couples and families can be seen here enjoying nature aboard their kayaks, canoes and even paddle boards.

Scenic 30A is becoming famous and attracts a lot of visitors, especially during the Summer. In fact two songs have been written about this beautiful, unique highway. The most recent release is called Life Shines, written by locals Bryan Kennedy and Mike Ragsdale. It was produced in Nashville by two time Grammy Award winner Gordon Kennedy. Mike Ragsdale who co-wrote the song described the special communities along 30A by saying it "still has a sense of Mayberry" from 1960s sitcom called "The Andy Griffith Show" which featured a charming, albeit somewhat eccentric small country town. Ragsdale said "You find a Southern Hospitality here that you don't ever get in other parts of the world. It is authentic and it feels like home."

Although Ocean Reef Resorts offers many beautiful private rental homes and luxurious condominiums along this same route, six of our most popular single family homes are located right on Scenic 30A itself. They include such scintillating names as: "Dune Vista", "Blessings", "Casablanca", "Seaside Blitz", "Coral Rose" and "Seascape."

Right next door to Blessings on 30A in Santa Rosa Beach is Casablanca, a magnificent three story Mediterranean style mansion. The locale of both of them side by side makes them a popular choice for giant family reunions, special abodes for wedding guests and other coastal events. Salt Air is almost 7,300 square feet with six bedrooms and eight baths. The classic terracotta red exterior is accented with decorative cornices above multiple arched windows, striking white eaves and corner columns which flank the sides providing a formal, stately presence. A front courtyard is adjacent to a separate, two story carriage house that sits over a three car garage. The guest house alone has a large living area with a galley kitchen, two big bedrooms with their own private baths, a screened in porch and even a roof top sundeck where you can see a glimpse of the gulf in the distance. On the top floor there is a large game room loft complete with a wet bar, pool table, extra sleeping accommodations, a full bath room and a open balcony that has spectacular 180 degree views of the beach in both directions.

If you don't need quite as much space but still want to be right on the gulf, Seaside Blitz is a charming beachfront three bedroom, three bath residence that is located on 30A in Seagrove Beach near Seaside. This is a very "user friendly" home, especially for families who have kids. This one story home was originally built in the charming old Florida style of architecture and was recently renovated to accommodate modern needs. An open Great Room has vaulted ceilings and lots of light since it leads to a large sun room with expansive plate glass windows that look out onto the sun splattered, iridescent gulf waters. A day bed and a game table seating four take advantage of these sunny views. The fireplace has a giant flat screen TV above the mantle where you can enjoy multiple views of the warm hearth, gulf views and whatever game you happen to be watching at the same time. Furnishings in the main living area have cheerful, nautical colors of light blue and yellow. A cafe styled glass topped table near the open kitchen can seat six. Both the Master Bedroom Suite and Guest Bedroom have comfortable king sized beds and a private bath. The third bedroom is perfect for the kids as a bunk room because it has three sets of twin bunk beds that are colorfully appointed. There is also a large Game Room garage that has Foosball, Bumper Pool and Ping Pong tables. Outdoors, which is readily accessible, is a large open wood deck that runs across the entire width of the house parallel to the beach and glorious gulf below. The sun deck is so expansive, you may want to have a beach party or wedding here. The views across toward the southern gulf are completely open and breathtaking.

If an intimate "beach chalet" is more to your liking we offer Coral Rose  a three bedroom, two bath rental home which is located in the laid back community of Seacrest Beach. This property is designed in the classic chalet model with a two sided, steep pitched roof, plate glass windows and open sun decks on the top two levels so that you may take in the scenery. Coral Rose sits on the north side of Scenic 30A with distant views of the gulf with two beach access points steps away. White tiled flooring provides a bright look as it sweeps throughout the main living area which has access to both open sun decks and covered porches. A pretty dining area seats six near the open kitchen that has a Breakfast Bar with four silver bar seats. The kitchen is all white cabinetry with dark, royal blue counter tops for a crisp modern look. The Guest Bedroom which is on this same floor is warmly decorated with two queen sized beds at each end and a Futon Sleeping Sofa in the center as part of the sitting area. Upstairs, the Master Bedroom Suite has a big, beautifully decorated king sized bed that faces a long white dresser with a large flat screen TV for viewing. A sliding glass door allows you to look out onto the gulf, even while still in bed in the morning. Another Guest Bedroom is also on this top floor and sits in a raised ceiling alcove of sorts that is near the peak of the roof. Both bedrooms on this level share a full hall bath and have access to the rooftop sundeck where you can enjoy the views. The added perk with Coral Rose is that this South Walton home also has a private lagoon shaped swimming pool in the fenced in the back yard for ample sunning and refreshing fun.

Seascape is another wonderful place to stay on Scenic 30A in Seacrest Beach. This rental home has four bedrooms and three baths and can sleep up to ten guests with the use of a sleeper sofa. This three story residence has a wide porch downstairs and two more balconies above to enjoy your favorite beverages, the salty breeze, the sound of the surf when it's high and the distant views of the gorgeous gulf. Three of the four bedrooms in this house are on the first floor including the Master Bedroom Suite which has a king sized floral print decorated bed, a private bath and French door access to the front porch. The second Guest Bedroom also has a king sized bed but is decorated in rose and burgundy tones with a door that leads outside to the private swimming pool. The third Guest Bedroom on this level has two twin beds done in a colorful patch work pattern. Upstairs, light amber colored hardwood floors cover the main living and dining area for a warm homey look. A large cream colored couch and two over sized, matching arm chairs face the flat screen TV at one end while a glass topped table seats eight at the other end of the room. Lots of sunny windows are everywhere which lends to a spacious look. The sleek bright kitchen has a nice Breakfast Bar with three seats as well as a Breakfast Nook that seats four more. Up on the top third floor is a real surprise. Here you will find a comfortable den complete with a kitchenette wet bar and a nice sitting area that includes a Sleeper Sofa. An arched window opens out onto a roof top sun deck balcony where you can enjoy the views and the invigorating sea breezes.
