Destin Fashion: What to Wear Where

Fall. Fashion. Fun.

Posted on 9/2/2016

Many of our Ocean Reef Resorts guests already know that one of the absolute best times to visit Destin the Emerald Coast happens to be from the first part of October into Thanksgiving week. Fall weather is fabulous, fantastic and fun! Temperatures during the day range from the sunny seventies into the eighties - and guess what? There is little to no humidity. The sun sparkles while the air is dry and crisp so it really doesn't get much better than this. In fact many locals don't even run their air conditioning or heat this time of year since the temps are simply perfect. The same wonderful weather arrives here during the springtime for a couple of months but here's the difference. The temperature of the glistening gulf waters during the fall are still warm and soothing not chilly like they are right after winter.  The summer sun has had plenty of time to have its warming effect on the gulf and that lingers well into autumn. Besides that, the beautiful beach and its sugary shoreline are wide open offering relatively serene seclusion. The family crowds have ended their summer vacations since the kids have returned back to school, so the beach almost all yours!

While others are back home shivering and putting on winter clothing, you may put on some beach attire to luxuriate in the glowing gulf waters. Here along the coast "resort casual" clothing is considered haute couture, however fashions are always changing. Comfortable casual clothing will always be a mainstay here but the interesting thing about the new fall fashions this year is that "everything old is new again!" Obviously the first place you want to be is at the beautiful beach so here are some fashion ideas available at Destin Commons, which is acclaimed as the Best Shopping Place along the Emerald Coast. Let's start with sunglasses. As many of you already know sunglasses are more than just a fashionable accessory here they are an absolute necessity. The sugar white beach is so bright you are almost blinded by its brilliance. The fine crystalline white quartz sand reflects the sunlight directly into your eyes. It also makes the soft sand cool to the touch and reflects the gulf water into emerald tones of jeweled green but you need sunglasses to see it without squinting! Sunglass World offers a wide variety of visual options. Clothing attire in style this year features multiple natural earth tones along with a laid back simple look which is perfect for the beach. You'll need some matching tropically inspired sandals, a nice Beach Tote Bag for your personal items, some simple sparkling jewelry and a woven straw sun hat with a ribbon to provide a sultry but fun flair.

Fishing is big down here. Destin is known as "The World's Luckiest Fishing Village" for good reason and the guys love it! The close access to deep water fishing in the glorious gulf makes it a veritable treasure trove for angling adventures and good eating. Destin features the largest private fishing fleet on the entire Gulf of Mexico and some of these charters are available at reduced rates for our guests through our complimentary Reef Rewards program. The famous Destin Fishing Rodeo occurs throughout the entire month of October with daily tournament dock weigh-ins, a chance to have fun and perhaps win some big money. Angling attire is available at the giant Bass Pro Shops which offers a myriad of Satchel Tackle Bags, World Wide Sportsman Fishing Shirts and cool caps. Destin Commons also has colorful leather ended all cotton prep styled belts with subtle fish prints, Men's Cargo Shorts from H & M, Sperry Topsiders at Belk's and wraparound sunglasses for fishing at The Eye Gallery. Columbia Fishing Shirts with plenty of pockets are also very popular and have become a comfortably classic fashion statement all by themselves.

The Emerald Coast abounds with fun fall festivals from Destin to Sandestin in Miramar Beach along with picturesque points east including coastal villages like Santa Rosa Beach, Watercolor, Seaside, Seacrest and Rosemary Beach. These include The 38th Annual Destin Seafood Festival  in early October, The Baytowne Beer Fest in mid October and a Wine Festival in early November at Sandestin. Just about every festival has free musical concerts where people gather around a village green, grassy lawn or outdoor amphitheater. You just spread your blanket, set up your chair and prepare to search your picnic basket for lively libations to quench your thirst or savory snacks to eat. These all go wonderfully well for enjoyment while live music is played for entertainment. Many restaurants also feature fun bars with live bands on a regular basis at Harborwalk Village in Destin and at The Village of Baytowne Wharf at Sandestin. So what to wear? Well it seems that the seventies are back! This fashionable clothing includes colorful beads, baubles and bangles as accessories. You'll need roomy Tote Bags for your belongings as many events are held outdoors since there's something about that crisp fall air that makes everyone feel energized and very much alive.  Shoes are comfortable and casual made of natural materials like hemp or woven burlap. Blue jeans aren't really blue but rather faded denims that look like they have seen a concert of two even when brand new. Woven fine cotton printed shirts or blouses go well with the denim jeans. H & M offers some lovely ruffled dresses that fall gently off the shoulder and can be quite sexy. These are mostly in strong solid colors and are versatile. They can be worn by themselves during warm days and can be easily worn over the denims on evenings when the temps have cooled.

Besides the popular shopping destination of Destin Commons there are a variety of upscale boutiques along Scenic 30A and at Grand Boulevard in Sandestin. Also don't miss out on some bargain shopping at Silver Sands Premium Outlets in Miramar Beach, which happens to be the nation's largest discount designer outlet. Ocean Reef Resorts has distinctive private vacation rentals available everywhere along the Emerald Coast so take a peek at some of these wonderful accommodations. We are sure that you will enjoy a having a fashionable, fabulously fun time during your stay with us.
