The Emerald Coast Theatre Company (ECTC), a non-profit theater company based in Miramar Beach, is celebrating 10 years of hosting incredible performances. The ECTC strives to enrich, inspire, and entertain the community through the art of performing. By offering professional and educational theatre opportunities, the ECTC hopes to encourage lifelong learning and share first-rate, professional entertainment with locals and visitors to the Emerald Coast.
At Ocean Reef Resorts, we are incredibly thrilled to join the ECTC in celebrating an exciting season 10. We have watched the ECTC grow from a small troupe that began in an abandoned storefront in 2012 to the wildly successful theatre company they have become. They are an asset to both the local community and visitors, and their success is well-deserved. We are proud to have been a sponsor at their “Executive Producer” level for several years and are looking forward to continuing to support this outstanding operation.
Are you ready to hear more about the season 10 lineup? Because it is going to be amazing!
The Emerald Coast Theatre Company is hosting six professional shows this year, with the first opening on September 23. The professional series includes: Godspell, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever: The Musical, The Odd Couple, The Last Five Years, Steel Magnolias, and The Sound of Music.
The ECTC kicks off the season with Godspell, featuring music by composer Stephen Schwartz. This classic tale stars Jesus and his disciples as they recount the story of Jesus Christ’s life and teachings. Structured as a series of parables and incorporating unforgettable songs like “Day by Day” and “God Save the People,” Godspell focuses on the Gospel of Matthew. With both funny and emotional moments, messages of kindness and love, and talented performers, this is a show you won’t want to miss. The show will run from September 23 to October 2, with times at 7:30 pm (Thurs-Sat) and 2:30 pm (Sundays and Wednesday, September 25).
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever: The Musical
Join the ECTC as they kick off the holiday season by taking its audience back to the 1950s with The Best Christmas Pageant Ever: The Musical. This beloved show has everything you want in a Christmas show. It features the Christmas story, kids, lots of laughter, and music that bring this classic short story to life. If you’re not familiar with the tale, you’ll discover the Herdmans, who are the world’s worst kids—ever! The town panics when the Herdmans come to Sunday school and want to join in the annual Christmas pageant. Can director Grace Bradley and her family help the community see the Herdmans in a different light and save the Christmas pageant? You’ll have to watch to find out! The show runs from December 8-18, with times at 7:30 pm (Thurs-Sat) and 2:30 pm (Sundays).
The Odd Couple
Your favorite dynamic duo is back in this quirky rendition of The Odd Couple. Nathanael Fisher and Jason Hedden play opposite each other as Felix in Oscar in this laugh-inducing show. The trouble—and comedy—starts when best friends Oscar and Felix decide to room together. With an organized and uptight personality, it’s no wonder that Felix and slovenly but easygoing Oscar encounter issues as roommates. This classic comedy will have you laughing from start to finish, so don’t miss out. The show runs from January 20-29, with times at 7:30 pm (Thurs-Sat) and 2:30 pm (Sundays and Wednesday, January 25).
The Last Five Years
Get ready for a special and intimate theatre experience with the ECTC’s cabaret performance of The Last 5 Years. This early 2000’s classic is all about love—the highs and lows and the ripping together and pulling apart of two souls. Cathy and Jamie, two young New Yorkers, fall in and out of love over the course of five years. Their story is told with gorgeous and enchanting music performed by live musicians, which adds another dimension to a beautiful, profound, and heartbreaking tale. The show runs February 10-19, with times at 7:30 pm (Thurs-Sat) and 2:30 pm (Sundays and Wednesday, February 15).
Another classic, Steel Magnolias, takes the stage as ECTC’s mainstage dramatic comedy in February and March of 2023. Step into Truvy’s Beauty Salon, where a group of women regularly gather and share the latest gossip. The plot covers three years of women navigating their conflicts, happy moments, and life in general. This performance is all about women supporting women—in the fun times and the sad times. It’s about women being there for each other no matter what, and this performance touches on the inherent strength, courage, and love that women possess. The show runs from February 24-March 5, with times at 7:30 pm (Thurs-Sat) and 2:30 pm (Sundays and Wednesday, March 1).
The Sound of Music
The hills are alive with The Sound of Music! A timeless classic, you don’t want to miss out on watching the beloved story of the singing Austrian Von Trapp family as their world changes at the start of WWII. The musical features well-known and loved songs, including “My Favorite Things,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” “Do Re Mi,” and others. This is a performance the whole family will enjoy! The show runs from May 5-14, with times at 7:30 pm (Thurs-Sat) and 2:30 pm (Sundays and Wednesday, May 10).
Theatre for Young Audiences
In addition to the professional performances, the ECTC also has a Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA), which is theatre by professional actors for young and child-based audiences. The intent is to enrich, educate, and inspire youth with fun and entertaining shows. Since 2012, the TYA has put on productions for more than 8,600 students and more than 24,000 children and families. This year’s TYA lineup includes: Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat (October 14-23), A Charlie Brown Christmas (December 2-10), and You and Me Under the Sea (March 31 and April 1, 7, and 8).
