The 2012 Destin Seafood Festival set records for attendance and over 60,000 visitors are expected to attend the 2013 Destin Seafood Festival. The fall festival is more than just a celebration; it is a true tribute to the rich history of the Destin Harbor. The first Destin Seafood Festival was organized by the Charter Boat Auxiliary back in 1978 to raise money for those boating angler families who might be in need and was originally was held on Destin Harbor at its present location. It also coincides with the kick off of the Destin Fishing Rodeo which runs in the fall throughout the entire month of October with thousands of dollars being awarded to lucky anglers with the largest catch in a variety of categories. Since Destin has the largest private charter fishing fleet in the entire state of Florida and indeed anywhere on the Gulf of Mexico, tens of thousands flock here for this tournament alone. The marina and gorgeous Destin Harbor makes for a perfect background for the Destin Seafood Festival since charter boats with lucky anglers on board unload their own fresh bountiful catches on the docks daily. Besides wonderful seafood and other dining delights served up by sixteen restaurants in and around Harborwalk Village, there will also be a wide assortment of food vendors on site. The food includes a variety of delicious seafood specialties that are prepared in Southern fried, blackened, broiled, steamed, sweet Caribbean, spicy Cajun and Exotic Island styles. The event grounds include one mile of shoreline from Harborwalk Village at the Destin Marina, extending past AJ's, Royal Melvin Heritage Park, Fisherman's Wharf, Dewey Destin's Harborside and The Boathouse Oyster Bar.
Besides the great seafood, this Destin Fall event provides three days of enjoyable entertainment, live musical concerts, as well as arts and crafts. Music will feature rock, reggae, country and tropical beach music at the Destin City Stage, the Harborwalk Village Amphitheater, at Harry T's Light House, Coyote Ugly's, AJ's and The Boat House. A Kid's “Fun Zone” will be set up at Melvin Heritage Park with rides, games, face painting, inflatable toys, and fun crafts. There will also be a “Fishing Clinic” set up for young anglers to attend. Fantastic fireworks will be shot off over the harbor at nightfall but be sure to get there early in time to see Mother Nature's own dazzling display in the sky over the water from her own spectacular sunsets.
