November through February is the “season of savings” here along the Emerald Coast. This period of time is Destin’s “Off Season” since rental rates are at their lowest point. Spring Break rental rates go up in early March and Memorial Day starts the “high season” of summer family vacations that last until about Labor Day. Increased demand during that time commands the highest rental rates. Our moderate climate and almost daily sunshine makes Destin’s Off Season the perfect place to get away from the frigid north. Sunny days occur here 340 days every year, the reason Florida is known as “the sunshine state”. Destin’s Off Season runs from November 1st until March 1st coinciding with the absolute lowest rental rates available all year.
Ocean Reef Resorts provides substantial low pricing on all of our fine distinctive rental residences from Destin to Miramar Beach and all along Scenic 30A in South Walton. This time of year is accompanied by invigoratingly crisp temperatures and azure blue skies highlighted by sparkling sunshine. Highs usually range up to around sixty degrees during the day to the forties at night. Temperatures often reach up into the seventies until about Thanksgiving time and sometimes reach that high even in February for an early glimpse of spring. The gulf waters through most of November are still warm from the months of summer sun so many people also still enjoy swimming at this time of year. Many of our Ocean Reef Resorts properties also include heated pools to swim in after the gulf cools down. Some of the most spectacular sunsets experienced here occur during the winter months. The “island” of Destin and Miramar Beach is really a long peninsula sandwiched between the gorgeous gulf waters towards the south and the expansive Choctawhatchee Bay to the north which is as far as five miles off the mainland. Except for a short period of time that coincides with the Vernal and the Autumnal Equinox, spectacular sunsets almost always occur here over water. During the winter months the heavenly sunsets are often displayed mirror like right over the glowing gulf. These sunsets are magnificent to behold especially from waterfront restaurants at Harborwalk Village on the marina in Destin, on Scenic Gulf Drive in Miramar Beach, in Sandestin or anywhere along the sugary shores. Harborwalk Village provides a great place to see them since it also abounds with great restaurants, lively bars, free musical concerts, specialty retail boutiques for shopping and festive seasonal celebrations like New Years Eve and Mardi Gras.
The crystalline white sand actually resembles snow at night when the moon is full but don’t worry it’s not! The shimmering scenery provides a romantic stunning sight along the beach beneath the moonlight and it’s NOT frozen. It should also be noted that during the winter season all of the wonderful restaurants and bars throughout Destin, Miramar Beach as well as the charming communities along Scenic 30A are all open for business and have little wait time. Grand Boulevard and the Village of Baytowne Wharf in Sandestin provide great shopping, excellent food and lively bars, many of which offer live musical entertainment on the weekends. A luxurious state of the arts theater called The Boulevard 10 is purported to have one of the largest movie screens in Florida for entertainment. Baytowne Wharf is famous for having all sorts of wonderful festivals during this time of year for the holidays. There are musically choreographed light shows at Christmastime, visits from Santa, a seasonal ice skating rink and often Dickens costumed carolers. Fabulous firework celebrations on New Year’s Eve are accompanied by music and everyone is dancing to live music in the bars. Festive street parades are held for Mardi Gras. Many visitors flock to the golf courses during the winter since they are open and have virtually no wait times. For each and every day of your stay with us you receive one free round of golf through our complimentary Reef Rewards program.
Winter time is also the best time to shop for that spring or summer wardrobe. A thriving shopping Mecca known as the Silver Sands Premium Outlets in Miramar Beach attracts literally millions of visitors every year as the largest discount designer outlet in the nation. Shoppers take advantage of huge savings of up to 75% off regular retail prices from internationally known designer stores. It is really amazing that little Miramar Beach, FL has the same fine retail establishments that can otherwise be found on Fifth Avenue in New York, Michigan Avenue in Chicago or Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Besides the big designer names, the main attraction here is that everything is “on sale” with substantial savings that can’t be found at any of these other locations. Another popular shopping destination is at Destin Commons located at the intersection of the Mid Bay Bridge Road and Emerald Coast Parkway. This pedestrian friendly retail complex looks more like a European village than a shopping center. The Disneyesque setting that features corner turrets, an old fashioned clock tower, a fountain plaza, towering Royal Palms and cleanliness for a family friendly shopping environment. It’s anchored by a Belk's Department Store and a giant Bass Pro Shops with about seventy specialty clothing stores along with restaurants scattered in between. Destin Commons features a modern AMC movie theater with fourteen screens. All are digital and state of the arts with 3D productions on large IMAX type screens. Comfortable stadium tiered high backed chairs and Surround Sound audio effects provide an ultimate movie going experience.
