Tarpon Beach Gulf Front Park is now open at 3310 Scenic Highway 98 in Crystal Beach, adding approximately 340 feet of public Gulf-front beach along one of Destin’s most popular vacation corridors.

Officially opened in July 2026, the new public beach park includes free parking, restrooms, four pavilions, ADA parking and 29 dedicated spaces for low-speed vehicles. For vacationers staying in Crystal Beach and nearby Destin neighborhoods, it creates another easy way to spend the day on the sugar-white sand without needing access through a private resort or beachfront condominium.

And while the park itself is new, Tarpon Beach has been part of this neighborhood for much longer.

Parking is free, a particularly welcome perk for anyone searching for public beach access in Destin. During summer, holidays and busy weekends, however, arriving earlier in the day is still a smart move.

The 29 spaces reserved for low-speed vehicles are especially useful in Crystal Beach, where street-legal LSVs are a popular way to travel between vacation homes, restaurants and the beach. Guests staying close enough may also be able to walk or bike to Tarpon Beach and skip parking altogether.

For families, the restrooms and shaded pavilions may be just as valuable as the parking.

Anyone who has spent six hours at the beach with children knows that a nearby restroom can suddenly feel like a five-star amenity.

Tarpon Beach Isn’t Actually a New Beach

The facilities are new.

The beach is not.

So although Tarpon Beach Gulf Front Park is one of Destin’s newest public beach facilities, it is better understood as an expanded new chapter for a familiar stretch of Crystal Beach shoreline.

Tarpon Beach vs. James Lee Park

Tarpon Beach isn’t the only major public beach option along Scenic Highway 98.

Nearby James Lee Park is a larger, long-established county beach park with extensive parking, multiple Gulf access points, restrooms and other amenities.

Which beach access is better may simply depend on where you’re staying.

For vacationers staying in Crystal Beach near Tarpon Street, Tarpon Beach Gulf Front Park may be the more convenient choice, particularly when walking, biking or traveling by low-speed vehicle.

James Lee Park remains an excellent option when guests want the capacity and facilities of one of the area’s larger established public beach parks.

Start with an early trip to Tarpon Beach while the morning is cooler and parking is easier. Spend a few hours swimming, building sandcastles or doing remarkably little of anything.
